My Journey into Architecture and Discovering Computational Design

Hey there! I’m excited to take you along on my journey as I enter my fourth year at CEPT University, Ahmedabad, India. Reflecting on my time in architecture school, I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs. Initially, my feelings were a whirlwind of self-doubt. Have you ever felt like an outsider in your own field? That’s exactly how I felt. Many of my peers seemed to have an innate passion and a wealth of knowledge about architecture, while I came into this madness with limited exposure and a looming perception that you need an inherent design sense to succeed.

Can you relate to feeling creatively challenged? I’ve always been a studious person with fairly common hobbies, nothing that particularly aligned with the creative demands of architecture. Despite these challenges, I managed to get into one of the top universities. People often say architecture is a difficult field and only those who truly love it can thrive. Seeing the passion and dedication of my peers, I often questioned my place in this creative and demanding environment, feeling like a misfit in terms of work ethic and creative prowess.

But guess what? Three years into this journey, my perspective has shifted. I’ve learned that you can slowly grow to love architecture and find your own ground amidst the chaos. It’s not about having a natural flair for design from the start; it’s about evolving and finding your niche.

So, why did I start this blog? I wanted to share my journey and how architecture has gradually grown on me. One of the pivotal aspects of this journey has been my introduction to computational design in architecture—a funny story in itself. Have you ever stumbled upon something that just clicked for you? That’s what computational design feels like for me. It is Computational design can be considered as a process that uses algorithms and software to explore, generate and optimize designs. While it may be seen as the future of architecture, for me, it represents a personal and exciting branch of the field that I am eager to explore.

Through this blog, I aim to document my experiences, share insights, and provide information on how I navigate and learn this new dimension of architecture. I hope my story resonates with you, especially if you’ve ever felt like a misfit in your chosen field. Let’s embark on this journey together and find our unique paths in the world of architecture!
